Some guitar songs are very simple to play and can be taught in just one guitar lesson. If take some examples, embedded below, you’ll see that all you need to play some pretty well know and famous songs on guitar is a few chords and 1 or 2 strumming patterns.
The most important thing is practice your chords enough so that you are able to change from one chord to the next fast enough to keep up with the songs. Some of them move along quite quickly! Most beginners find that it’s relatively easy to learn the shapes of chords, the real practicing (and challenge) comes when you have to get from one to the next. All too often what you’ll find is that you’ll have an unavoidable gap between them and this is what must be gotten rid of if you want to play through songs fluently. This is the goal of most guitar lessons.
There are a number of ways in which you can practice all this to the point where it will become almost automatic. The best way is to use a metronome or drum machine, something that will keep time and which you can adjust to make increase or decrease the tempo.
Now using this you’ll be able to find the exact point where you’re just about able to complete the chord change or the strumming pattern. This is your point of pressure and it’s where you should spend all of your future practice time. It will ensure that you improve quite rapidly when you learn to play guitar.
Give the lessons outlined below a try and see how you go. If you find them too difficult then it’s a sure sign that you need to put more time into practicing the basics of open chords and strums. Here’s another guitar lessons channel to check out.
